Sony's Next PSP is NGP : Next Generation PlayStation Portable

As rumors of a PlayStation phone continue to go round, Sony has announced its next PSP: NExt Generation. Codenamed NGP, this playstaion revolves around 5 concepts: Revolutionary User Interface, social connectivity, location based entertainment, converging real and virtual reality.

The specifics are pretty cool. 5-inch touchscreen with 960 X 544 resolution, 2 analog sticks, 3G, WiFi, GPS, a touchpad at the back, motion sensing like on the playstation move and cameras on the front and back.

The games for this device will come on 'new media' and not UMD so we're thinking paid downloads. Sony unveiled this at its event recently. They also say the console has a new UI called LiveArea, with a bunch of vertically scrollable home screens and built-in social networking. Its also got a bit of multi tasking so you can jump between games and the LiveArea without losing progress.

The Internet is running out of Space!

According to Hurricane Electric, the internet is about to run out of its current version of IPV4 addresses. That is assuming there are one million addresses created every four hours. Doomsday is February 2nd, 4am.

Yeah I'll explain it. Every internet connected to the Internet has a unique code called an IP address. Currently the internet runs on IPV4, a system that supports only about 4 billion IPV4 addresses. The upside is some of these addresses are reusable as explained on PC world.

There's seriously no need to be sad. Thanks to the Internet Engineering Task Force, this problem was foreseen and they invented IPV6, a system that uses letters and digits so the internet can handle about 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 addresses!

Thanks to Hurricane Electric's campaign, they're encouraging other internet service providers to switch to IPV6. Already most operating system support IPV6 by default.

So you're safe!

The boys are initially shocked by all the hoops they have to jump in order to survive teachers, prefects, wicked seniors, dining hall food, thieves, cutting grass, washing toilets, puppy love and all the other regular experiences anyone in a public Nigerian boarding school would experience. Facebook is not shutting down!

Rumors have been going round on facebook, twitter and Instant Messengers that facebook is shutting down on the 15th of march. The rumor says Facebook is shutting down because CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants his old life back and wants to end all this madness.

Well, facebook isn't shutting down. In a tweet from facebook, they say

"We didn't get the memeo about shutting down, so we'll keep working away. We aren't going anywhere; we're just getting started"

Let's think about it. Will facebook really shut down in March soon after a $50billion valuation and after spending $450million on a new data centre? Word around the blogosphere is that the rumor was stated from a site most of us refuse to link back to because they also said Michelle Obama was pregnant and aliens were attacking us.
Anyways, if you want to read the fake article, this is it:

PALO ALTO, CA –Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March. Managing the site has become too stressful.

“Facebook has gotten out of control,” said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”

Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts.

“After March 15th the whole website shuts down,” said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook.

“So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back once Facebook goes out of business.”

Zuckerberg said that the decision to shut down Facebook was difficult, but that he does not think people will be upset.

“I personally don’t think it’s a big deal,” he said in a private phone interview. “And to be honest, I think it’s for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That’s always a good thing.”

Before you believe anything you read online, remember that humans put it up.

Starcommms enters tablet market with myPad

We blogged about Etisalat's Samsung Galaxy tab a while back. This is Starcomms' reply to the Galaxy tab. myPad is an Android 2.1 or 2.0 based tablet with free starcomms internet and 3months free internet subscription. The tablet comes at a price of N75,000. There's one little glich though. In a newspaper ad for this 'Android tablet' starcomms has a picture of an iPad with the iPad button and iPad icons and all.  The ad is also duplicated on the Starcomms website. So we have to ask Does Starcomms know what an Android device's User Interface looks like?
