Twitter is not about follow backs. Dammit!

I'm back to ranting about social networking attitudes again. It's been a long while. First of all i'll start by saying Twitter is not facebook, twitter is not supposed to be like facebook and twitter will never be like facebook.

The point of facebook is to add your friends check their profiles, comment on their pictures, videos, notes, e.t.c. What makes twitter essentially different from facebook[Aside, the 140 character limit], is the follow option. Everyone has the option to follow whoever the hell they want without the person having to reciprocate the follow. Its unique, its twitter.

So please don't kill the network for us. Don't ask me for follow backs. Don't ask anyone for follow backs if you don't know them in person.

And what happens when you get to like 100,000 followers are you going to take time to read every tweet? And this is when you say but DonJazzy and Dbanj follow back na. Yes they do, but do they actually read your tweets? Plus its on auto anyway, so it's not like DonJazzy actually sees 'xXXXX is now following you on twitter' and then he follows back.

And for all those people claiming #teamfollowback please stop that BS. Nobody cares if you follow anybody back, because that is not why we are here.

Does the number of followers even matter? Its all about influence anyway. I know someone who used one of them follow back software and shes's got more than 10,000 but i've got more klout than her. Klout is a measure of social media influence. So instead of asking for more followers, why don't you try your best to influence the ones you already have.

Pls watch this video by my friend kidluucomedian . He's making some sense. 'When you follow people, its not necessarily about them, it's about their ideas'. So if you're gonna ask for a follow back, please give me a reason to do so. If you like this post, you'll love UPNEPA on twitter.

Of A Withering Psyche.

Alas, I know not my strength forthwith.

Why, I ask. What changed, I want to know.

There was a time I wept about it all.

Lord, I knew not the value of tears

And to waste, I put them.

Nonetheless, I grew past it.

Something hardened me. Be it the thin line between growing up and understanding life in depth, I know not.

Yet, I found a balance and with it, my strength escalated.

To my discovery, tears did nothing. Although you find comfort for that moment in time, the damage remains, or the event is irreparable. And so, your tears are in vain, somewhat.

Philosophising fast becomes a habit. It's very much like one's conscience chases them down a path they can't apprehend. An obscure path.

My vision fails me. And it hurts every part of my body. It sickens me mentally, and in no time, it will affect me spiritually.

Thoughts of the end time fill my head.

And I wonder, of what nature is my voyage? Wherefore dost thou lead me?

As I rest my head to sleep,

I prithee Lord, awaken me.

For my withering soul,

Dost seek impunity.

Why Fridays Rock and Mondays Suck: It's in the mind!

Your classic Friday night. After all your TGIF facebook updates, tweets and retweets, you're finally going to have a night out with your friends. Of course you deserve it. I mean you worked your ass off Monday through Friday.

So it's Friday night and you're having the best night of your life[funny, how every friday is the best night. isn't it?]. And you're having so much fun, so much fun that you've gone way past the night and into the A.M. So it's saturday morning and you're not even at your house, you're wasted and you still have Saturday stuff to do. And in the twinkle of an eye you're sitting in Church Service on Sunday morning a few small meetings ever and its Monday again.

Monday. Even Garfield hates Monday. Monday is the most sucking day of the week. It's the day you get to work late, it's the day it rains and the danfo splashes water on you, it's the day your boss gets pissed off, it's the day you have tests in school, it's the day you have the 1hr assembly at school. Let's face the truth: MONDAYS SUCK!

Why do Mondays suck and Fridays Rock?

Over the years we've built this TGIF thing in our minds. Majority of us work at jobs we don't like anyway so we can't wait till we get a break from them. Others just hate school. I mean what's the point of spending 20 years and loads of money in schools?[another discussion for another day]. Monday is the day you leave your house without your pen, Monday is the day you forget your phone, Monday is the day your driver calls in sick, Monday is the day your generator goes down[happened this week], Monday is the day your friend falls sick, Monday is the day your friend got dumped, Monday is the day YOU got dumped, Monday is the day you hate waking into.

It's in the mind dammit! I had horrible Mondays. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. My first period in the week was Math. I mean MATHEMATICS - Who does that? I remember the Monday I walked 5km to cover a 100m journey and some okada guy just splashed water on me. I HATED MONDAYS until I discovered positivity.

It was really simple. I told myself repeatedly 'TODAY IS GOING TO BE AWESOME' and I believed it. At first it didn't work but over time it did. I don't think I've had a bad Monday in the last 6 months.

Society has messed the entire idea of Mondays up. There's no 'hey! let's take everyone in the office out for food on Mondays', There are no 'Thank God It's Monday' shows, There are no Monday Concerts, or Monday specials on TV. I mean except for soccer matches, and S.H.a.r.e movies. Fast forward unto Fridays and there's a whole lot of Comedy shows, concerts, dinners e.t.c.

So What if we create special Mondays. Like 2 hours from work Mondays or Ice Cream for everyone mondays or Come late to work Mondays or something that really takes the stress out of regular Mondays as we know it. Maybe productivity will increase, maybe we'll see more TGIM tweets, maybe people will start looking Forward to the beginning of the week. Maybe, Just Maybe.

Facebook has extended some part of its mentions feature into comments and now lets you tag friends, events, groups and pages within comments. This tag turns the name tagged into a link to the respective page.

Before you had to mention another user's first name while replying a comment and most times they didnt get it. To use it simply comment in a comment box and type '@' then type the first letter of the person, group, or page you want to tag and facebook gives you options. Click on the name you want to tag and viola! they appear in the comments with a link to their page and a notification that you've tagged them.

Google might launch new social network 'Circles' Today [UPDATED]

Reports are beginning to circulate that Google might preview a new social network called 'Circles' at an event at SXSW today. It is believed that the service will offer photo, video and status updates. Anything shared on circles will only be shared with the appropriate 'circle' of contacts in users' lives.

The circles service has been developed by Chris Messina[co-creator of BarCamp], Jonathan Sposato[CEO Piknik, and founder PhatBits now Google Gadgets]. It's very interesting to know that Google hasn't given up on the Social Network scene despite criticisms from the Blogosphere. We'll keep you up-to-date as more details are revealed.

UPDATE: In this tweet,Tim O'reilly says he's seen google circles and its awesome. Also google is using the term, 'social circle' showing the connections google uses in its social search results.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Google has tweeted that they will not be launching any product at SXSW. Chris Messina also told Liz Gannes that he didn't know what the story was about. Tim O'Reilly later contacted NetworkEfffect by e-mail and said

“It’s not a product, per se, and it’s not a new social network. Just some research-y thinking about how you could better manage social data. Exactly what Chris said. I got fooled by the RWW story into thinking that they’d turned it into something they were going to announce. There’s no story here. Just some labs stuff.”

Facebook and Twitter can keep their mind at ease.

Getting Into The Spirit!

When I'm inspired, I pick up the pen.

When I say pen, I don't mean literally. Any device I use to express myself is my pen, so you can call it a sort of symbolism.

It's the first Sunday of Lent today and I've just left the Church. I feel blessed. I've always said I felt blessed before, but those feelings were nothing compared to how I feel today. The Gospel reading was that of the temptation of Jesus during his 40 days of fasting.

The Homily (I'm Catholic) was then based around the idea of "silence". I should probably explain the main ingredients of Lent. During this season, as Christians, talk less of Catholic, we ought to show our Christianity, and to do this, we must mark our journey on Lent through a prayerful reflection on our faith. There are four recipes for lent and they are; repentance, alms giving, self denial and prayer. Repentance is acknowledging that we have all made a slight mess of our lives and instead of running away from our errors, we're going to God and surrendering ourselves to Him, saying "dear Lord, here I am, you know all I have done and all I am about to do. And so, I give myself unto you, letting you know that I've done this, and I am prepared to think again and change. I'm prepared to turn a new leaf. I can't do this with You and so Lord, I give myself to you to accept me as I am, giving me the guidance I need to become a better person."

Alms giving is us giving back to the needy, showing love to the needy and giving them something. One of the most important commandments is to Love; love ourselves and our neighbours. To be able to love, we need to find God in our hearts and to say you're a Christian means knowing God. For this reason, during Lent, we should all endeavour to give something to the needy. The idea of self-denial comes with giving something up for Lent. I recently learnt that giving something up for Lent is not for us to be excited and tell the whole world about it, but to give it up for the greater good. The greater good being that thing you feed your soul with. At the end of the Lenten season, we should all find some sort of spiritual satisfaction with the Lord. And after that, you feed your soul. You give your soul some enduring Love.

Finally, the most crucial recipe for Lent is prayer.

Praying is a form of marking our Lenten journey, a way of showing God that it's all about Him this season. It's all about Him, and you're devoting your all to Him. Our Christian way of life should have a distinction about it and if we all do these things, we'd all find peace and spiritual comfort.

This Lenten season, indulge in SILENCE. Indulge in silence so that you can hear what God is saying to you. You can hear the things you won't usually hear when people are around you. Be silent, take some time for yourself alone, find space and time to indulge in silence. It's all for the greater good.

As we begin our journey of Lent, let us all have this prayer in the back of our minds. Wherever you are, whatever you may be doing at this point, say to yourself, say it within yourself. Say "Father, I place into your hands the things I cannot do. I place them into your hands for I know I can always trust you. And throughout this season, all that I can do, I do for You. I give it all up for You so that I may find a place in your Land."

God bless you and may we find all that we seek during this season.

Michel Platini

Michel Platini has been re-elected as UEFA president for the next 4 years.

"Sometimes, it lasts in love...

... But sometimes it hurts instead.
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing, but the best of you two
Don't forget me, I beg
I'll remember you said,
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead.

Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead."

This time, this time, it hurts instead.
It hurts for all the wretched reasons.
It hurts because the wretched reason
Is no reason at all.
Memories made, no regrets,
A smile emerges
At mere reminiscence
Butterflies affect
At every thought.
The touch of your lips upon mine
Heaven...
Heaven on earth
Heaven between your lips and mine
The euphoria
When your finger runs down my spine
It satisfies
Satisfies the aching.
Take me away, I ask you
Take me away
Once again.

The Governorship Debate is a channels TV initiative organised in different states in the country[i'm hoping there's a presidential one].I have to say Governor Fashola trumped his opponents and made them look like idiots. Bottom line: You don't want to argue with a SAN and I was impressed that he knew his opponent's house and the entire Ijeshatedo area. After watching the videos, please leave your comments and tell us who you'll be voting for.

Live from Apple's iPad 2 event.

I've spent the last 45 minutes looking for a live video stream of Apple's iPad 2 event. I must say it sucks that it's not even on Apple.com and I also have to say that it didnt take me this long to find a livestream of the Windows Phone 7 event. Why must Apple be so closed?

Anyways here's an unofficial stream, I hope it's not over by the time you see it.
