Google Buys Motorola Mobility for $12.5Billion

Motorola is one of the companies that has been at the forefront in making Android what it is today. In 2008, Motorola Adopted Android as it's sole operating system for all Smartphones. Yesterday, Google's CEO, Larry Page announced via a blog post that Google was going to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5Billion.

This could be very good for Google. Google will control over 17,000 patents and another 7,500 patents pending. Google particularly needs these patents in its patent war after losing the Nortel bid to Apple, RIM and Microsoft.

Control over Motorola's devices also means Google can supercharge Android, according to Larry Page. Larry Page also says Motorola will continue to run as a separate company and it will not sideline other manufacturers who run on Android because of this acquisition.
